In May, Season 14 of alt.news 26:46 came to a close with the completion of our annual short film featured in episode #14.07. This year’s film is a comedy entitled Watermelon Falls. Upon discovering that they are brothers, best friends Tom and Dave vow to relive events from their childhood. It is when they return to their childhood treehouse that they make a discovery that complicates their relationship. Check out the trailer below:
We had a lot of fun on the set of Watermelon Falls; a feeling that basically sums up Season 14 as a whole. This season took us to Missouri, Tennessee, New York, and even Texas, as well as the usual trekking all over our home state of Illinois. We were doused in color at the Color Run in St. Louis, caked with mud at the extreme obstacle course Tough Mudder, and participated in a tattoo convention in Chicago (with host Marcus Odom walking away with an alt.news tattoo). We met Real Life Superheroes in Manhattan, a Junk King in Texas, the owner of Blackbird Studios in Nashville, as well as musical talents Mac Miller, Colin Hay, AWOLNATION, Matt & Kim, and Imagine Dragons. And that’s only some of what we covered this season!
We also were graciously awarded a College Television Award for Best Magazine Program for episode #14.03. The Season 14 staff and episode #14.03 segment producers were able to accept the award in Los Angeles, California, in April thanks in part to donations made by friends, family, alumni, and supporters. We were also able to support Season 13 by attending the Mid-America Regional Emmy Awards Ceremony in Kansas City, Missouri.
It has been a great year filled with not only these invaluable experiences, but wonderful memories to accompany them. Thank you to executive producers Haley Conner and Cara Gordon, as well as Beth Radtke (Season 14 Senior Producer) and Amy Myers (Season 14 Promotions Manager). Thank you to everyone who helped make Season 14 possible. We have so much to be proud of, but also so much more to strive for in the coming year. So, here is to an awesome season, and here is to Season 15!
Have a wonderful rest of the summer alt.news crew. Stay alternative.
